The Versatile Blogger Award

Thank you Jade for nominating me for this award! I apologize that I couldn’t get to it sooner. I’ve been a little busy … XD

Anyway, here are the rules (:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Link to the blog of the person who nominated you
  • Share 7 facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 more bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award

I am almost certain that I won’t be able to tag 15 bloggers, but let’s see how this goes XD

Seven Facts About Myself

#1. I am a freshman in high school.

#2. I really love street art and studying different graffiti artists’ works.

#3. I love listening to all different rap artists even though most modern ones *cough Juice Wrld cough* are pretty explicit and they don’t rap about good topics. Logic and NF are pretty cool though (:

#4. There are only two people that I’m really close friends with irl. I’m not sure how I’d still be sane without them.

#5. I’d rather spend the whole day outside than inside in the summertime.

#6. I’m allergic to a sweetener called high fructose corn syrup which is in most candy. As a result, I don’t eat much candy (except for chocolate, which I can’t live without).

#7. I saw Avengers: Endgame on Sunday and it completely tore me apart and left me in a bottomless pit of despair and it was amazing and I’m going to miss ******** so muchhhhh. Ily3k and everything.

I nominate…

Liberty (Freedom Child)

Right, so as I predicted, that was EIGHT bloggers, not fifteen. However, if I didn’t nominate you and you’d like me too, leave a comment and I’ll edit the post to nominate you!!!

Yeah, so that’s today’s post. I’m debating whether or not to do an Avengers: Endgame review, so let me know if you think I should in the comments!

Thanks for reading,

~Sophie (:

Last Thursday …

Hi everyone!

So…how do I say this? Last Thursday on the 21st, I went from being one age to another. Normal people would say that it was my birthday, I guess. Fortunately, I’m not normal people.

I’m not going to tell you how old I turned for privacy reasons and stuff, so I hope you don’t mind. But you can comment how old you think I am now, and if you get it right I might let you know (;

I had a really awesome day, and I’m going to tell you guys about it today, because why not?

So I woke up at around eight o’clock that morning to speak with my Chinese grandparents who live in Hong Kong. We have something like a thirteen hour time difference, so it was really about seven o’clock at night for them. My mom is from China, so I can speak some Mandarin.

This is a picture of my grandmother and I from nine years ago. I think I look a little different now XD

Later that day, I went to volunteer at a nonprofit organization which helps people who are homeless or in financial trouble get food and clothing. I volunteer there every Thursday, and it’s always so much fun helping people. They also happen to have free wifi, which is just a bonus (;

I asked a few of the other volunteers how old they thought I was, and everyone told me they thought I looked like I was eighteen. I don’t understand. I’m definitely younger than that. Not much younger, but I’m still in highschool. I can’t post any pictures from there because they don’t allow people to take photos, videos, or audio recordings in the building. I don’t mind.

I also received a letter from a friend and she didn’t even know I was turning *insert my age here* that day. We’re doing a Doctor Who fan fiction collaboration and I hadn’t heard from her for awhile. So I was super happy to see her reply and addition to the fan fiction collaboration (I didn’t mean to rhyme that … okay, I kinda did). And of course, getting letters in the mail is always fun, right?

At around five o’clock that evening, I started a fire and a few of my friends and I made s’mores. I’d been planning on having a fire on that day for weeks, but when I went to look for marshmallows, they were all “out of season”. My dad and I went to three stores. Finally I just ended up going to Walmart to buy marshmallows and Hershey’s chocolate.

Don’t be fooled by my smile, I was posing for about fifteen seconds and the SMOKE WAS IN MY EYES THE WHOLE TIME
Group photo! In the upper right hand corner, you can see a fist barely breaking through the frame. That’s one of my brothers’ friends, who enjoys photobombing in the strangest ways ;D

All photo credits go to my mom (:

Later that night, someone sent me a Snap in reply to a cover video I’d sent him a couple days before. It was the first video I’d ever filmed of me singing Ashes by Celine Dion (from Deadpool 2) and I positively hated it. The lighting was off and my voice was so. Strained.

He rated it 10/10 and said that Celine would be proud. It’s such a hard song to sing, and I didn’t want to do it in the first place because I was scared that I would mess it up. But if my day hadn’t been perfect yet, his comment made it as close to perfect as it could be. I might post it on my Instagram page sometime, but I’m still kinda scared about it. Comment if you think I should!

Anyway, I had an amazing time. A bunch of people Snapped me that day with really kind messages (and hilarious Bitmojis XD ), and overall I think that might have been my best birthday ever. I definitely didn’t eat too many s’mores. No, of course not. I’d never do that.

Also, on the 22nd I cut off sixteen inches of my hair. Just, you know. As a side note. I’m totally not freaking out or anything, because this is the shortest it’s been since I was seven. It’s okay, it was super long to begin with, and I had tons of split ends. At least this way I won’t have to cut it for awhile, right? I’m probably gonna donate it to Locks of Love.

Well, thanks for reading ;D Don’t forget to comment how old you think I am and if I should post my cover!

More Pictures!

Hey everyone!

My brothers and I went to a nearby creek yesterday with a friend, and I took a bunch of photos which I wanted to post today since I don’t really have any other content.

I took these all on my old iPhone 4, and I had to use the selfie camera with all of them because the regular camera doesn’t work. So if some of them look a little tilted, that’s probably why.

Also, a lot of these are gonna sunset pictures because we were there at around 5:15pm and the sun was the easiest thing to photograph.

This is one of the very first pictures I took when we got to the creek. It was also right before I slipped and broke through some thin ice over the creek, causing my boots to become completely filled with icy muddy water. Just a fun fact behind this photo (:

This is what the creek looked like right before it opened up into a river about ten feet across. I like the reflection in this picture, but I could probably have taken it better if I hadn’t been balancing myself on a fallen tree in the middle of the creek XD

I’m not totally sure why I like this picture so much, but I really like the color of the sky. In the summer, the creek overflows its bank and the entire area turns into a swamp with a ton of reeds and cattails which are all about seven or eight feet tall, so I had to take a bunch of pictures like this before I found one that fit in the camera frame.

This one I tried SO HARD to center, but I this is the closest I could get. If you look closely, one of my younger brothers is in the lower right hand corner of the photograph.

And this is what the river looked like once we all got to it. It’s much wider and I was going to take another picture, but the boys had already started going back to the trail, so I had to keep walking.

Okay, that’s all the pictures I have for now. The other ones I took are either blurry, grainy, or are other sunset pictures which don’t look terrible but I’ve already posted three of them here. If you want to see them, you find a few of them on my personal Instagram account @sophie_aka_spidergirl . My photography account isn’t letting me post captions for some reason, but I’ll be active on there again soon!

Thank you so much for reading (: Which photo was your favorite?

Speed cubing and StackMats

I apologize for posting late this week. These past couple of days were pretty hectic.

Last Sunday I got a Gan speed cube and a Pro Timer Graphite4 StackMat, and I’m going to be talking about them today. Prepare yourself for a bunch of phrases that will probably make absolutely no sense to you.

Just to clarify, a speed cube is not a Rubik’s Cube. They look similar, but speed cubes are used for speed solving and competing. The can cut corners (cutting corners is where I don’t have to line the edges up completely to be able to twist the different sides) and they are generally MUCH faster and easier to handle than Rubik’s Cubes.

These are both cubes I own. The one on the left is the first cube I ever solved, and the one on the right is the one I use now.

I was really excited to get a new speed cube because the one I have now (a Dayan Zhanchi 3×3 stickerless) is partially broken, and Gan is the best speed cube brand in the world. The pieces are designed so that they don’t pop and the centers are slightly rounded to give the solver optimal corner cutting ability.

It’s also stickerless, which means that the cube is made from colored plastic instead of plastic with colored stickers on them. It doesn’t help the cube twist faster, it’s just a personal preference that I have.

AND it came perfectly tensioned, which I am so grateful for. Tensions aren’t hard, they’re just really time consuming.

The Pro Timer Graphite4 StackMat is the only StackMat that’s approved by the World Cubing Association (WCA). StackMats were originally created for cup stacking, which is another game that requires timed hand-eye coordination. A StackMat is a motion sensor timer that times to the thousandth of a second. The moment my hands leave the mat it begins timing, and when they touch the mat again it stops.

This isn’t my fastest time, but it’s the only picture I have.

With this cube, I have broken several of my personal records (PBs) and my fastest time at the moment is 34.273 seconds. Solving it under 40 seconds (or sub 40) hasn’t been consistent, and most of my sub 40 times were because of lucky solves. Lucky solves happen when a step is already completely or partially completed.

At the moment, my average time is about 45 seconds. However, my average times last week was around a minute to a minute and 30 seconds, so I’ve made a pretty big improvement.

I’ve only had the cube and the StackMat for a few days, and I’ve already gotten so much better at speed solving. Hopefully with more practice, I will able to master the Fridrich method (or CFOP, a speed solving method) and be able to solve sub 40 regularly!

I’ll probably have a lot more posts on this topic in the future, since speed cubing is a pretty large part of my life. If you have any questions about today’s post or just about cubes in general, drop a comment and I’ll try to answer it!

Thanks for reading (:

A Review on Romeo and Juliet

My review Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

I recently read Romeo and Juliet, which is a play that was written by William Shakespeare in the late 1500’s. I read a version of it in Shakespearean English and another one in modern English. It was terrible both ways.

In my opinion, the entire play was a mockery of life. I’ll give three examples of how that statement is true, and then say as many nice things about the play as I possibly can. I have a feeling it won’t be very many.

Just so you know, the story is set in Verona, Italy. Juliet almost fourteen years old, and it’s not clear how old Romeo is. Let’s just assume he’s not over eighteen so that his character doesn’t instantly turn the play mega creepy.

The play starts off when Romeo Montague falls in “love” with a girl named Rosaline. Rosaline turns out to be a nun, and Romeo gets upset when she doesn’t like him back. So in order to display this sadness, he doesn’t come out of his room, he pulls the shades down so that he’s in perpetual darkness, he barely eats, and doesn’t tell anyone what’s wrong. His parents claim they’ve tried everything they can to get him to tell them what’s wrong, and that’s probably true. Romeo’s just being a teenager.

This is Life Mockery #1. Romeo is a spoiled, selfish, egomaniac who is accustomed to always getting what he wants and then if he doesn’t, he sulks until he does. In real life, people don’t always get to complain and cry when they don’t get what they want. It’s hard, but it’s true.

One of Romeo’s cousins, Benvolio, suggests that he go to a party so that he can see other girls and stop thinking about Rosaline. The party is hosted by the Capulet family, who have been feuding with the Montagues for years and years. But for some reason, the cause of the feud is never mentioned, likely because William Shakespeare just couldn’t be bothered to think of a good enough one.

So Romeo goes to the party, and of course he meets and falls in love with Juliet Capulet, the only daughter of his father’s sworn enemy and instantly forgets about Rosaline. The two of them decide to get married the day after the party.

Life Mockery #2 makes it’s appearance. Nobody gets married to someone they’ve known for less that 24 hours because of love. I’m sorry, it just doesn’t happen like that.

A couple hours after Romeo and Juliet are married, Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt Capulet, kills Romeo’s best friend, Mercutio. So then Romeo has to fight Tybalt, and because Romeo kills Tybalt, he ends up getting banished from Verona.

Juliet gets really upset because her father, who doesn’t know that she’s married to the enemy, has arranged for her to marry this dimwitted nobleman named Paris in a couple of days. So she goes to a friar, and says that if he doesn’t help her, she’ll take her life with a dagger right there and then. It seems kinda intense, to kill yourself in a church, but who am I to judge a lovestruck teenager? The friar ends up giving her a poison which will make her fall into such a deep sleep that it will make her seem like she’s dead.

The friar’s wonderful plan is to get Juliet put into her family tomb, and wake up after the potion has worn off. Then, while her whole family is grieving because they believe that she is dead, the friar will tell Romeo to come get Juliet, and they’ll live happily ever after.

Not surprisingly, there’s just one tiny glitch in that idea. Romeo hears from a friend that Juliet really IS dead. Not realizing that Juliet is only mostly dead, he buys a lethal poison from a local apothecary, and then goes back to Verona so that he can kill himself at Juliet’s grave. The message from the friar never reaches him.

Seriously, how come there’s poison literally like, everywhere?

Seconds after Romeo dies, Juliet’s potion wears off and she wakes up. But when she sees that he’s dead, she stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger, killing herself for real this time. True love won’t wake her up when there’s a dagger through her heart.

When their parents find out what’s happened to their children, they decide to resolve the feud. They also build tall, golden statues of Romeo and Juliet so that the whole world will see how the two teenagers killed themselves. The end.

See, and that last bit was Life Mockery #3. Now people are going to think that if they want gold statues of themselves, all they’ve got to do is kill themselves and their parents will have a pretty memorial up, just like what happened in the play.

I guess the way Shakespeare created the characters was interesting. Romeo is a player. Juliet is stupid. Tybalt is angry. Paris is a tool. My favorite character would probably be Rosaline because she seems pretty smart, even though she has no real appearances in the play. The absolute best part about this play though, was that it only took me two hours and forty-one minutes to read. I’m extremely glad that William Shakespeare kept it short.

My advice to anyone planning on reading Romeo and Juliet: don’t. It’s a complete waste of your time and mental energy and you could be using your time for much better purposes.

I wrote this as sarcastically as I could, but all of the expressed opinions are completely my own. Let me know if you liked it and if you didn’t, comment what you didn’t like about it and I can try to change it.

The Liebster Awards

Thank you so much Freedom for nominating me for the Liebster Awards! Everyone go check her blog out here.

Anyway, here are the rules.

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you for this award.

2. Answer 11 questions the blogger gave you.

3. Give 11 random facts about ourself.

4. Nominate 11 blogs and notify them.

4. Give them 11 questions to answer.

The questions Freedom gave me:

1. What is your favorite word and/or phrase?

My favorite word is floccinaucinihilipilification. Yes, I can pronounce it, and yes, I can spell it. It’s a noun, and it means a habit or action of estimating something as worthless or useless.

2. If you could be any Disney character, which one would you be?

Ohhh, that’s a tough one. Well, since Marvel is now part of Disney I’d probably be Shuri from Black Panther. Or MJ from Spider-Man-Homecoming.

3. Would you rather be a celebrity, or just successful?

I’d be a celebrity so that I could use my influence to show people that pitbulls are really sweet and amazing and that they shouldn’t be banned from some areas.

4. If you could have any magical pet, what would it be?

Any animal, as long as they could talk. I’ve always wanted to have a conversation with an animal.

5. If you were a poster what would you say?

Depends on the poster. Probably something like “What are you looking at?”

6. What’s your favorite TV show?

STRANGER THINGS!!! Definitely Stranger Things. But Cloak and Dagger is a pretty close second.

7. If you have any siblings, on a scale of 1 to 10, how much do they drive you crazy?

I have three younger brothers, and they don’t “drive me crazy”, as that’s a phrase I try not to use. We don’t always agree on everything, but we all try not to fight that much. If I had to scale them, it would probably be around a 7 or an 8.

8. Whats your main goal in life?

To do good and not evil. And also to work for my aunt and be a dog trainer.

9. What would you do if you saw an old lady robbing a bank, but on her way out she falls, and hurts herself, right in front of you?

I’d be shocked that an old lady managed to rob the bank and then ask her what she was going to do with the money. Oh, and, you know. Call 911 or something.

10. If you could live anywhere were would you live?

Right here. I’d love to live right here for the rest of my life. That would be … amazing.

11. Is there any strange, or weird thing you do all the time?

I eat ice cream in the winter. Winter isn’t all the time (which I’m VERY grateful for, by the way) but many people find that weird for some reason.

11 random facts about me:

1. I’m ambidextrous, which means that I can write with both of my hands.

2. My favorite movie franchise is definitely Marvel. Death to DC! Well, except for Aquaman and Wonderwoman. They’re cool. Oh, and also Catwoman.

3. I taught myself how to skateboard a couple years ago and I’ve been doing it since. I really need a new board now XD

4. I didn’t know what LMAO stood for until I was twelve and I had no idea what Snapchat streaks were until about a month ago.

5. I have a really good memory. Sometimes it’s so good it’s scary. I have to be careful when I’m talking to people so that it doesn’t sound creepy.

6. I love singing and rapping. I think that being able to speak really fast and put words together in interesting ways is really awesome.

7. My favorite book is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

8. I am ten years and ten months older than my littlest brother.

9. I don’t wear makeup. A lot of people think that I hate it, but that’s not true. A bunch of my friends are really good at it, and I understand that it’s just a different form of art. I just don’t want to wear it myself.

10. I participate in NaNoWriMo every November and I have for the past four years, although the first one doesn’t really count since I couldn’t find my word validator and pretty much failed XD

11. I really, really, really want to dye the tips of my hair blue. My parents won’t let me yet, though.

I nominate….

Acacia Story Corner

C. Marie Bohley

Jade rainbow

Hannah Gaudette

I know that’s not eleven, but honestly everyone else I would have nominated has already done this award XD If I didn’t nominate you and you want to do it anyway, go ahead ;D

Here are your questions!
